Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila on Wednesday alleged that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government in Telangana, led by K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), had indeed tapped the phones of several prominent individuals, including politicians — and that she, too, was among the victims.
“The phone tapping by the previous KCR government is absolutely true. They tapped my phone, my husband’s, and those of people close to me. It was a joint operation by the then Telangana Chief Minister KCR and then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to suppress me both politically and financially,” Sharmila claimed while speaking to reporters at the Visakhapatnam airport.
She said KCR and Jagan shared a deep, inseparable bond.
“They were like real brothers — their connection was stronger than even blood relations,” she remarked.
Sharmila alleged that KCR, in connivance with Jagan, orchestrated the phone tapping, which was confirmed to her by senior YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Y V Subba Reddy.
“He came to my home and even played an audio clip of my conversation with him, confirming my suspicions,” she said.
However, she added that she doubted whether Subba Reddy would admit it now.
“Jagan even made Subba Reddy lie in a case involving his own nephew and niece-in-law. Under such circumstances, I don’t believe he will speak the truth anymore,” she said.
Sharmila emphasized that she was ready to prove her claims.
“I am willing to swear on the Bible or on my children to prove that I’m telling the truth. I am ready to face an investigation anywhere, anytime,” she stated, adding that she had not spoken out earlier because she considered it a minor issue at the time.
She said she had now come to realize how her own brother had joined hands with KCR to sabotage her political and financial growth.
“Jagan made several attempts to destroy my political career. Phone tapping was a part of that conspiracy. Those who supported me were threatened, my political aides were blocked from functioning, and my followers were intimidated,” she said.
Sharmila demanded that firm action be taken on the phone tapping allegations.
“Both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments must conduct a thorough investigation into this issue,” she urged.
