Jagan Govt Readies Vehicles For PDS Delivery

After the visual pleasure of watching 1080 ambulances moving from Vijayawada on the roads during the Covid 19 pandemic, the people of AP would have another visual feast on Thursday.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had flagged off a fleet of 1080 ambulances from the Benz Center in Vijayawada, calling the attention of the world, which was fighting the most critical Covid 19 virus.

After the successful launch of the ambulances, this is now for the identical mini-vans that would move on to the roads from January 21.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy government has set 2,500 mini vans to be rolled out on the streets from the historic Benz Circle. These are meant for Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts.

These vehicles would take the essential commodities of the public distribution system (PDS) for all the ration card holders to their door steps.

The state government had invested Rs 830 crore to procure 9,260 vehicles. The vehicles are given to the unemployed youth in the state who would coordinate with the village and ward volunteers and take the PDS commodities to the door steps of the beneficiaries.

Each vehicle is procured at Rs 5.81 lakh of which 3,48,600 is the subsidy to the unemployed youth. The subsidy is provided by the finance corporation of the respective caste of the youth.

The state government had created finance corporations for several castes, bifurcating SC and BC communities.

The State Civil Supplies Corporation would hire these vehicles from the youth on a monthly payment basis for the next six months, so that the unemployed youth have no problem with repayment.

Once the loan is cleared, the youth would still continue the contract with the civil supplies corporation or go for other works, but ensure that they supplied the PDS commodities to the beneficiaries every month.
