Autonomous judicial offices to move to Kurnool!

Autonomous judicial offices to move to Kurnool!

Even as the uncertainty over the formation of three capitals for Andhra Pradesh continues to loom large with the issue still caught in a legal wrangle, the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government has begun efforts to shift all the autonomous judicial offices to Kurnool at the earliest.

The state government on Thursday told the state high court that efforts were on to shift the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission to Kurnool soon, as per the directions of the court.

Advocate general Subrahmanyam Sriram told the court that the decision to shift the APSHRC from Hyderabad to Kurnool was taken by the state cabinet and the authorities were looking for a suitable accommodation at Kurnool for housing the commission office.

Hearing a public interest litigation petition opposing the shifting of the SHRC to Kurnool, the high court made it clear that it was for the government to decide where the SHRC should be located.

“The court would only direct that the SHRC be within Andhra Pradesh,” it said.

The advocate general said it would take some time for the relocation of the SHRC to Kurnool.

The amendments to the notifications under the HRC Act and consequential notifications are due to be issued within a day or two, he said.

The high court adjourned the matter by four weeks so as to enable the state government to apprise the further update.

Apart from the SHRC, the state government has also decided to shift all the other commissions and tribunals to Kurnool for which the district authorities have started searching to accommodate them.

Lok Ayuktha is likely to move to new premises on the Bellary Road, while the SHRC, tribunals might be located in the existing government buildings within the Kurnool town. The SHRC team inspected a few buildings in this regard.

A new building constructed for the offices of Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti irrigation offices is likely to be allocated to the State Human Rights Commission.

Even the State Women’s Commission headed by Vasireddy Padma is also likely to move to Kurnool soon.
