As Naidu Enters Second Year, Anti-Incumbency Sets In

The Telugu Desam Party–Jana Sena–BJP coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, is celebrating the completion of its first year in office with much fanfare, including a major public meeting scheduled for Thursday.

However, on the ground, all is reportedly not well within the alliance. Assessments by various survey agencies indicate that anti-incumbency sentiments are slowly beginning to take root in the state.

A reputed Andhra Pradesh-based election survey agency, which previously conducted surveys in Vizianagaram, Kakinada, and Tirupati, has now released fresh findings based on its latest survey conducted in the Krishna, NTR, Guntur districts, and the Amaravati capital region.

According to these reports, while North Andhra and the Godavari districts show clear signs of anti-incumbency, the situation remains relatively more favorable for the TDP alliance in the Krishna-Guntur regions. Amaravati-related sentiments and strong anti-YSRCP feelings have helped maintain public support for the TDP in these areas.

However, the survey also revealed public dissatisfaction with 11 TDP alliance MLAs across these districts. For example, in Gudivada, a former MLA reportedly enjoys greater public support than the current TDP legislator.

Current ministers such as Kollu Ravindra (Machilipatnam), Nadendla Manohar (Tenali), Anagani Satya Prasad (Repalle), and Kolusu Parthasarathy (Nuzvid) are said to be facing growing negative sentiment among voters.

Only Nara Lokesh (Mangalagiri) has retained a largely positive image, though his popularity has slightly declined compared to last year. In constituencies like Tiruvuru, Guntur East, and Guntur West, the sitting MLAs may end up as one-term legislators.

In Gannavaram (the home turf of Vallabhaneni Vamsi), YSRCP’s sympathy politics have had minimal impact. One MLA is reportedly facing intense public backlash over illegal sand mining activities and alleged connections with YSRCP leaders.

The survey predicts that a Jana Sena MLA may not receive a ticket in 2029, and even some senior first-time TDP MLAs could be denied renomination due to poor performance.
