AP To Move SC On Krishna Water Dispute

The AP government had decided to move Supreme Court on the Krishna river water dispute with the Telangana State.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat seeking their intervention.

The chief minister wanted the Prime Minister and the Central government to notify the jurisdiction of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and provide Central security for the inter-state projects.

As neither the Central government nor the KRMB intervened, and the Telangana continues to draw extra water from the river, the government had made up its mind to seek the intervention of the Supreme Court.

The state government accuses Telangana of violating the inter-state water sharing agreements and regrets that the KRMB and the Central government remained mute spectators.

The chief minister said that the State was deprived of its rightful share in the river water because of the aggressive and unlawful drawing of water by the Telangana.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also accused Telangana of going for unauthorised projects and had listed them in his letters to the KRMB and the Prime Minister.

The attitude of Telangana in drawing excess water from Krishna river for power generation is depriving the entire Rayalaseema and Nellore and Prakasam districts of drinking water.

Under these circumstances, the state government had finally decided to move the Supreme Court seeking justice.
