AP Most Improved States In Economy!

Quite often, the opposition parties have been criticising that the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh has lacked discipline in financial management that that it indulged in indiscriminate borrowings to fund his welfare schemes.

Notwithstanding this criticism, a survey conducted by India Today has revealed that Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the most improved states in terms of economy in the last two years.

The State of the States study was done to assess the socio-economic condition of our states, especially in view of the challenges like economic slowdown and Coronavirus pandemic.

The survey was done in 12 different categories. However, in terms of most improved economic performance category, the survey has revealed that Andhra Pradesh has climbed to No. 1 position by scoring 213.6 points out of total 300 points. It is followed by Telangana with 203.6 points.

Interestingly, in 2018 when the Telugu Desam Party was in power, Andhra Pradesh in 11 position in terms of improved economic performance. By November 2019, after Jagan took over as the chief minister, the state has climbed to second position and now, it is in No. 1 position.

Telangana, too, was in fifth position with regard to improvement in economic performance in 2018, but it moved to third position in 2019 and now, it is No. 2, after Andhra Pradesh.

In the best performance category, too, Andhra Pradesh has improved its position, compared to 2018. It was in 10th position in the country then and now, it has moved to sixth position with 193.3 points out of 300. 

In this category, however, Telangana is in better position compared to Andhra. In 2018, Telangana was in sixth position and now, it has moved to second position with 220.5 points, whereas Gujarat remained at the top position with 223.5 points.

The India Today State of the States 2020 study was conducted by Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA), a Delhi-based premier research agency. 

“The robust methodology is designed to rank the states on the basis of the most relevant and exhaustive data, covering aspects crucial to foster inter-state competition and uphold the true spirit of India’s federal structure,” the survey claimed.
