Amaravati is no more an election issue in AP?

Amaravati is no more an election issue in AP?

Apparently realising that there is no way the YSR Congress party government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy can decide on the three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, the party leaders are now changing the tune.

While majority of the YSRCP leaders have stopped talking about the state capital issue – either Amaravati or Visakhapatnam, they are facing this question somewhere or the other when they are going into people.

On Monday, state minister for irrigation Ambati Rambabu had to face this question.

He said for now, Amaravathi is the Capital of Andhra Pradesh and there is no change in the situation for the time being.

“The State Government would take up the three capitals issue only after the courts accord clearance,” he said.

Interestingly, even Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan have been harping on the capital issue during their election meetings.

Of course, they are raising the issue when they to the Amaravati region, but it appears the issue ceased to be a major election plank of the TDP.

Naidu might have thought it would unnecessarily kick up the regional sentiment, if he speaks about Amaravati capital elsewhere in the state during the campaign.

Since he has already declared that he would bring back the glory of Amaravati once the TDP comes to power, he is not talking much about it.
