ABV seeks CBI probe into charges against him!

In a surprising development, senior IPS officer and former intelligence chief of Andhra Pradesh A B Venkateshwar Rao on Saturday demanded that the state government order a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation into the criminal case booked against him by the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB).

Rao wrote a letter to this effect to state chief secretary Adityanath Das. He submitted as many as nine different documents to the chief secretary to prove that the ACB authorities and CID authorities had submitted forged documents to the Commissioner of Inquiries, making false allegations against him.

He alleged that Director General of Police Gautam Sawang himself had personally submitted a forged document to the commissioner of inquiries.

Besides, he also attached the letters purported to have been written by CID additional DGP Sunil Kumar and ACB director general Sitaramanjaneyulu.

“I request that the government order a CBI inquiry into all these forged documents created to fix me in the case pertaining to alleged irregularities in procurement of security equipment from an Israeli company during my tenure,” ABV said.

He reportedly threatened to move the high court seeking a CBI inquiry, if the state government does not order it.

ABV, who served as state intelligence chief during the Telugu Desam Party regime, was suspended on February 8 last year for his alleged irregularities in procurement of security equipment from an Israeli company during his tenure.

The Jagan government, which entrusted the case to Anti-Corruption Bureau, alleged that Rao had wilfully disclosed intelligence protocols and procedures of police to the foreign defence manufacturing firm.

Rao challenged his suspension in the Central Administrative Tribunal on February 13, but the CAT dismissed his petition in March. Later, he moved the high court, which revoked his suspension in July.

The AP government challenged this order in the Supreme Court, which lifted stay on his suspension in November, pending inquiry.
