Sudheer Babu has made a niche for himself with good choice of movies recently. After decent hit 'Sammohanam', he has turned producer to make another rom-com. His maiden production 'Nannu Dochukunduvate' is here.
Let’s find out whether he has made right choice for his debut stint as producer or not.
Karthik (Sudheer Babu) works in a software company. He is workaholic and his dream is to settle in America. His maternal uncle wishes to marry off his daughter to Karthik but she is actually in love with another guy and she fears to tell this to her father.
To save her, he lies to his uncle and his father that he is loving a girl named Siri.
When his father demands to see Siri, he asks Meghana (Nabha Natesh), an actress who works in short films to pose as Siri. This leads to complications in his life.
In the role of a software company’s manager, Sudheer Babu is impressive. He is also convincing in comic act, the best performance moment come from him in final scenes with his father Nasser and in a comic short film acting.
Nabha Natesh in her Telugu debut impresses with her livewire acting.
Nasser as Sudheer Babu’s father has lengthy role and the senior actor adds value.
Sudheer Babu in the role of producer has spent good money for his maiden production to make the movie look rich. The film’s music is a big let-down. The songs are easily forgettable after coming out from the theater.
Editing is not sharp. Dialogues are okay.
Short film scenes
Dull second half
“Nannu Dochukunduvate” comes to the basic conflict in the very beginning. The plot point is wafer thin and the conflict is established in the very early stage. So the new director has struggled to hold the interest as the movie progresses as everything can easily be guessed.
To make the proceedings interesting, he has focused on comedy portions with Nabha Natesh’s character taking full charge.
The new director R S Naidu has brought one good idea to the board – short filmmaking. Today youngsters are making short films like crazy and sharing them on social media. He has brought this aspect perfectly here to generate comedy.
By making the heroine as an actress of short films and one craves for fans and following, he has got enough meat to generate comedy. No wonder then that whenever a scene related to short filmmaking comes, the audiences go in splits.
The problem is the other portions are dull, and lethargic. So the balance is not perfect. As the movie progresses predictability supersedes.
For romance to work out, there should be convincing angle of the lead actors to fall in love or go for breakup. Here both the aspects happen on flimsy reason.
After interval bang comes, we know what is going to happen next at every scene. There are no villains in the film either. Only silly misunderstandings. Even the father-son emotional bond should have developed in better way.
Since this is not a serious romantic movie, the proceedings seem okay as they don’t bore us. This is a kind of a movie that can be called so-so as it offers some hilarious moments even though the narrative is quite predictable.
Overall, “Nannu Dochukunduvate” offers nothing new but some comic moments.
Bottom-line: Predictable Romance
