Nostalgia: C Pullaya, the Grand Old Man of Tollywood

In the early days of talkie cinema, C Pullayya, the grand old man of Telugu film industry, decided to make films under the series of mythological themes.

He ventured 'Sathi Savitri' in the year 1933 where that turned popular. It was the popularity of drama that brought audiences to theatres.

Hence he made the film just by sending the drama on to celluloid with all poems and theatrical histrionics.

Eventually in the next three years he made the films 'Lava Kusha', 'Anasuya' and 'Dhruva Vijayam'. Almost all these films ran successfully in those days.

Later in the year 1938 he made the film 'Mohini Bhasmasura' and Satyanarayan Vratham.

In due course of time he made the films like 'Vara Vikrayam', 'Devanthakudu'(1960), 'Bhuvana Sundari Katha' and many more.

He has got the credit of introducing the heroines like Anjali Devi, Bhanumathi and Pushpavalli to industry.

However, he was known for his East Godavari slang and typical Andhra get up.
