Despite a series of underperforming films, Ajith Kumar continues to command massive stardom in Tamil cinema; on par with Thalapathy Vijay and even Rajinikanth in terms of fan following.
His films may not always work at the box office, but his brand value remains untouched, and so do his paychecks.
Now, fresh reports suggest the actor is demanding over ₹150 crore for his next film with director Adhik Ravichandran.
Ajith and Adhik first teamed up for Good Bad Ugly, which released in April 2025. Made on a reported budget of ₹200 crore, the film underperformed overall but still became Ajith’s highest-grosser to date and performed strongly in Tamil Nadu.
That success prompted discussions about a second collaboration; but things have stalled.
The major hurdle? Ajith’s remuneration.
Sources say the star was paid a massive amount for Good Bad Ugly, and for the new film, he is demanding well above ₹150 crore.
Producers were willing to pay around ₹150 crore, but Ajith’s higher asking price has made them back out.
Multiple producers reportedly showed initial interest, but the budget ballooned out of control once Ajith’s salary was factored in.
Since Ajith’s market is largely limited to the Tamil region, many believe such a huge salary pushes the film into dangerous territory financially. With the project expected to cost more than ₹300 crore overall, the risk is simply too high.
For now, the film remains unannounced and Ajith’s remuneration is said to be the reason everything is on hold.
