Sitaare Zameen Par is the upcoming film from Aamir Khan, one of the most popular actors in India.
It is set to release across the country in multiple languages, aiming for a pan-India reach. However, surprisingly, the film is generating very little buzz ahead of its release on the 20th of this month.
Adding to the concern is the fact that the official trailers of the film, especially in regional languages, are recording miserable view counts on YouTube.
In many cases, people are not even aware that a film of this scale and subject is coming to theatres. This lack of visibility is alarming, particularly when the film stars someone of Aamir Khan’s stature.
According to many, the lukewarm response is due to the film seemingly rehashing familiar themes.
It comes from the makers of Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal, and the trailer reflects elements from all three: a sports coaching theme requiring team spirit like in Lagaan; emotional and educational struggles of differently-abled individuals like in Taare Zameen Par; and an inspirational journey filled with hardship, much like Dangal.
This blend of previously explored emotions doesn’t offer anything fresh, leaving the audience indifferent.
The trailer lacks a strong surprise element and feels like yet another product from the Aamir Khan formula, rather than something original or compelling.
In today's cinematic landscape, even films made with sincerity and strong intent struggle to gain traction.
Sitaare Zameen Par is proving to be a case in point: despite featuring a major star and aiming for national appeal, it has failed to stir excitement — underscoring how drastically audience tastes and attention spans have evolved.
