RRR to be screened at only 276 theaters in K'taka

The much awaited and hyped multi-lingual movie RRR will be released only at 276 theaters across Karnataka as against 386 theaters.

Posters and banners and flexes of the movie RRR were torn and removed at many locations in the state, including Bengaluru.

Speaking with media persons in Bengaluru on Thursday, Dr Shivarajkumar said that theater issues would arise whenever a big-budget movie is released in the state.

“I am not against the release of Telugu movie RRR. Let them release the RRR at as many theaters as possible but I am against removing the Kannada movie James from theaters where it is doing well. I have to thank Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for his intervention. He invited me to his residence to discuss this issue. I am very grateful to him,’’ said Dr Shivarajkumar.

It is alleged that Kannada movie James was supposed to be removed from 8 to 9 single screen theaters to facilitate screening of the movie RRR.

Meanwhile, Sa Ra Govindu, former president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has objected to an increase in the rate of admission (ticket price) for RRR. He said the ticket price is between Rs 500 and Rs 1000 for the movie RRR.

According to reliable sources, the box-office collection of Kannada movie James has dropped at some single screen theaters.

The sources also said that Director SS Rajamouli and his team had postponed the release of RRR to March 25 from March 18 to facilitate the release of Kannada movie James.

Speaking to media persons, James movie producer Kishore has said the screening of Kannada movie James would be continued at 270 theaters in Karnataka.
