RGV can release 'Murder,' but conditions apply!

In a big relief to ace director Ram Gopal Varma, the Telangana state high court on Friday gave him permission to release the much-hyped film “Murder,” which kicked up a lot of controversy.

The film is based on a real-life story of Permulla Pranay, a Dalit youth who got killed by his father-in-law T Maruthi Rao, for marrying the latter’s daughter Amrutha in Miryalguda town in Nalgonda district two years ago, in a case of honour killing.

Maruthi Rao, who was subsequently arrested, committed suicide in Hyderabad early this year and the episode became a big sensation in the media.

The release of the film was suspended by the Nalgonda court following a petition filed by Amrutha, saying that Varma was trying to cash in on the personal tragedy in her life which she was yet to overcome. Varma challenged the decision in the high court.

The high court, while permitting Varma to release the film, however put certain conditions stating that he should not use the names of Amrutha, Pranay and Maruthi Rao anywhere in the film and also on the publicity material. So, it could be like any other film based on crime-thriller story.

“VERY HAPPY to inform that our good intentions of making the film MURDER has been rightly understood by the honourable COURT ..Details will be given once the order is with us ..THANKING EVERYONE,” Varma tweeted after the court verdict.

The film is being made under the banner of Natti’s Entertainment and Quity Entertainment. The producers are Natti Karuna and Natti Kranti and the film is presented by Anurag Kancharla. The lead roles were played by Srikath Iyengar and Sahiti.
