Kathi Mahesh death: Father wants judicial probe

Four days after the death of popular film critic and Dalit activist Kathi Mahesh at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, his father Obulesu expressed doubts over the car accident at Kadavaluru on the outskirts of Nellore on June 25, in which Mahesh sustained grievous injuries.

On Wednesday, Obulesu requested that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government order a judicial probe into the death of Mahesh, since there were several doubts over the accident and the death in the hospital.

He said the hospital authorities did not inform the family members about the death, but disclosed to the media first.

He wondered why the driver of the car did not sustain even a minor injury when Mahesh had severe head injuries.

“I am too old to fight a legal battle seeking justice. So, I request the state government to order a judicial inquiry to bring out the facts in my son’s untimely death,” Obulesu said.

It may be mentioned that founder of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi Manda Krishna Madiga also demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting high court judge into the death of Kathi Mahesh.

He also found fault with YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for not issuing even a statement condoling the death of Kathi Mahesh, who had campaign for the party in the elections. Not a single YSRC leader attended the last rites of Mahesh, he alleged.

Meanwhile, the Nellore police began inquiry into the accident involving Kathi Mahesh.

They called the driver Suresh to the police station for inquiry to find out how the accident took place and what had happened immediately after that.
