It looks like Telugu filmmakers are once again turning to Karan Johar for national reach.
According to industry insiders, the makers of Kingdom, Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming action-adventure film, have approached the Bollywood filmmaker to handle its North India release.
Known for his strong distribution network and brand power in Hindi-speaking markets, Karan has previously helped South films gain wider traction.
However, the timing is tricky. After the roaring success of Pushpa: The Rule, several Telugu films attempted to ride the pan-India wave but failed to leave a mark beyond their regional base.
Audiences in the North seem to have grown more selective, no longer automatically embracing dubbed versions or big-budget spectacles.
Despite these challenges, the team behind Kingdom appears confident.
With Deverakonda’s mass appeal and a genre that promises large-scale action and drama, they hope Karan’s involvement will provide the necessary boost.
Whether Kingdom can break the current dry spell for Telugu films at the pan-India box office remains to be seen.
