Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who on Thursday wrote on social media that he would be contesting from Pithapuram, on Friday said he wasn't making an entry into politics.
Clarifying his social media post, the filmmaker today said he meant he was participating in a short film contest.
Ram Gopal Varma said, "For all those dumbos who misread this tweet, I meant that I was taking part in a short film contest...which I shot in Pithapuram."
"I am not sorry for this miscommunication...I didn't even mention the word election and the media jumped into a frenzy of speculation," he added.
On Thursday, it was reported that the filmmaker announced his candidacy for the Pithapuram constituency for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, against actor Pawan Kalyan, who is also contesting from the Pithapuram constituency.
