Malayalam actor Dilquer Salmaan won acclaim in Telugu for his performance as Gemini Ganeshan in “Mahanati” and since then has become a favorite for urban audiences.
He is in discussion for another straight Telugu film to be produced by Swapna Dutt.
Interestingly, the handsome star is back in the news in Telugu states with “Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante” turning out to be a sleeper hit. The dubbed movie was publicized as a love story but it is a riveting thriller.
It opened to low openings in the first weekend but gained patronage from the audiences with strong word-of-mouth did the wonders.
It is the only dubbed movie in recent times that worked at Telugu box-office. Moreover, it is doing good business at a slack season like this.
The success of “Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante” has not only brought demand to Dulquer’s next dubbed movies, but it also gave confidence to corporate production house Viacom 18 to invest in Telugu.
The company earlier had burned hands by producing films like Nani’s “Devadas” and Nagarjuna’s “Manmadhudu 2”.
“Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante” also gave a boost to ‘Pelli Choopulu’ fame Ritu Varma who has now signed a couple of movies in Telugu that include Nani’s ‘Tuck Jagadish’. She played the female lead in this Dulquer movie.
