Two major biopics on Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the Father of Indian Cinema, are currently in the works.
Aamir Khan is set to star in one, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. This film, which has been in development for four years, will begin shooting in October 2025 and will explore Phalke’s life during India’s independence era.
Aamir is expected to start preparations after the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par.
Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli is backing another Phalke biopic titled Made in India, which will be directed by Nitin Kakkar.
He made an announcement on this in 2023. But now latest development is that the team has approached Jr NTR for the lead role, and he has reportedly liked the script, although the final paperwork is still pending.
This version also aims to capture Phalke’s cinematic journey, beginning with his first film Raja Harishchandra in 1913.
Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian cinema is monumental, and his story promises rich cinematic potential.
With two big teams involved, it remains to be seen if both projects will move forward or if one will eventually be shelved. Audiences eagerly await updates on these ambitious films.
