KCR Public Meeting at N'Sagar In Jeopardy?

KCR Public Meeting at N'Sagar In Jeopardy?

The much-publicised public meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Halia town in Nalgonda on April 14 as part of election campaign for the by-election to Nagarjunsagar assembly seat has run into jeopardy.

Two different petitions were filed on Monday – one in the state high court and another in the Election Commission of India – demanding that permission should not be granted to the public meeting of KCR with one lakh people in the wake of increasing number of Covid-19 cases across the state.

Some local farmers from Halia filed a petition in the high court saying that the public meeting was being conducted in their fields without seeking their permission.

The TRS leaders are levelling their agriculture fields to hold the public meeting of KCR ignoring their objections, the farmers said.

They also found fault with conducting the public meeting with one lakh people at a time when the police were denying permission even to hold celebrations in public.

“How can the police give relaxation to the chief minister’s meeting?” the farmers asked.

Another petition was filed by two NGOs Yuga Tulasi and Gow Sena Foundation with the Election Commission requesting that permission should not be given to KCR’s public meeting at Halia keeping the public health in view, in the wake of increasing number of Covid-19 cases. They wanted that the TRS cancel the public meeting.

It remains to be seen what the high court and the ECI would direct the ruling party, since the issues raised by the petitioners are genuine.
