This 8-year-old earns nearly Rs 185 crore in a year

New Delhi: The thought of someone below the age of 10 earning over 100 crores in a year is mind-boggling. In fact, it feels impossible. However, eight-year-old Ryan Kaji earned $26 million (Rs 184 crore) in 2019 on his YouTube channel. Kaji was the actually the highest-paid creator on the platform, according to a list published by Forbes magazine.

According to Forbes, Kaji, whose real name is Ryan Guan, was YouTube's highest earner in 2018 as well with an income of $22 million. His channel "Ryan's World," launched in 2015 by his parents. The channel is only three years old but already has 22.9 million subscribers. Ryan, who hails from Texas, is a toy reviewer.

It may be noted that the channel was initially called Ryan ToysReview and it mostly consisted of "unboxing" videos in which opened boxes of toys and played with them. Several of the videos have racked up over one billion views. As per data from the analytics website Social Blade, his channel has received nearly 35 billion views since its creation.

If you are not aware, the channel was recently renamed after a consumer advocacy organization, Truth in Advertising, filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about it. The organisation accused the channel of not clearly denoting which videos had been sponsored, meaning brands paid for the video to feature their products.

According to Forbes's ranking, Kaji surpassed the channel "Dude Perfect," run by a group of friends Texas who attempt seemingly impossible feats, such as launching basketballs into hoops from the tops of buildings or out of helicopters.

It is worth mentioning that Ryan has been reviewing toys since he was three and has earned enough money in five years to start his own toy company and he has no plans of slowing down. He has expanded his hobby with a line of over 100 toys. He is also part of a show on Nickelodeon and is currently working on a lot of science experiment videos.
