TAW Summer Event in Cardiff

The sun shone brightly on 14 July 2018 when telugu communities residing in Cardiff, Newport and Port Talbot came together for a fun filled event held at Pontacanna fields organised by Telugu Association of Wales(TAW).

Cricket matches were held for men along with games for ladies and kids.

The cricket tournament was well received with over 60 participants. Due to constraints of time and place, 4 teams with IPL names were formed. Leading the teams were Sudesh Duvuru for Royal Challengers, Sunrisers team was led by Pavan Pati, Dare Devils team by Prashanth Mamilla and Super Kings team by Santosh Batt.

Match commenced with players singing the Indian national anthem. In the first match SuperKings scored 88 runs in 15 overs, Sudesh batted like a dream remaining undefeated, taking Royal challengers to Finals in 12 overs.Followed by Second semi-finals between DareDevils and Sunrisers where the latter put a score of 96 runs in 15 overs, DareDevils fought their way through to finals with a blast in the last ball.It was a close game, a tight finish, a full house and the highest excitement.

In the Finals, the Royal Challengers won the toss, electing to bat, scored a massive total of 156. Ram Guni being the key player scoring 31runs remained unbeaten. Albeit the line between victory and defeat is a very thin one but Royal Challengers made sure opponents weren’t anywhere close.They conquered the match, bowled their way to victory getting Dare Devils all out for 80 runs.

As part of lunch delicious Special Chicken and Veg Biryani with variety of curries were served accompanied with some homemade traditional butter milk. 

The beauty of the day, however the results have gone on the field, there was still so much else to rejoice in the beautiful greenery, trees bestowing their shade, warmth of the sun and massive open field for the kids to enjoy with their bicycles and scooters. There was racing, fun and frolic, laughter and all that you could ask for.

Gracing the presence were prominent Telugu personalities in Wales Dr.Velagapudi Bapuji Rao and Mrs. Sujatha Thalada presenting specially designed medals to all players participated in the event.Mrs. Sujatha Thaladi presented the special memento to Man of the match, Ram for his unbeatable performance in the finals. Mr. Bapuji Rao presented maiden TAW Cricket Cup to Winning team Royal Challengers Captain Sudesh.

Their heartily wishes and encouragement during prize distribution ceremony certainly enhanced the morale of the participants. They appreciated the efforts of TAW organising committee, for their hard work and co-ordination in arranging this event. Mrs. Sujatha Thaladi said she felt very happy to see families from all over Wales participating and wished to see more events like this bringing communities together.

TAW certainly provided what it promised. This was surely an unforgettable experience for all and most importantly the friendships that have been formed will always remain close to heart.

Event closed with hot and delicious snacks involved Samosa and Aloo Bonda.

Players and families thanked TAW organisers Srinivas Maguluri, Venu Gopal Kusa, Siva Kollipara, Sudesh Duvuru, Radhika Ladisetty and Ram Vallbaneni for their exceptional work and co-ordination in arranging this event. Everyone showed interest to join for future programs conducted by Telugu Association of Wales.
