Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami Yaagam at Livermore

Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami Yaagam at Livermore

The Shiva-Vishnu Temple at Livermore will be performing the Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami Yaagam. This Yaagam is performed for Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami and Consort Sri Bhoo Devi.

Sri Varaaha Swami is one of the Dasha Avataaraas (ten incarnations) of Lord Vishnu.

According to the scriptures, the Asura (enemy of Gods) Hiranyaaksha hid Goddess Bhoo Devi (mother earth) deep under the ocean.

Lord Vishnu assumes the form of a Varaaha (boar) and rescues Bhoo Devi from the clutches of Hiranyaaksha. Later, Bhoo Devi became Varaaha’s divine companion and so Lord Vishnu is known as Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami.

There are temples in India for Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami. The most prominent among them are in Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh, Kallahalli in Karnataka and Sri Mushnam in Tamil Nadu.

Varaaha Puraana, a Hindu scripture reveal that the Goddess Paarvati (divine companion of Lord Shiva) performed Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami Yaagam (a rigorous fire oblation) in the Sri Mushnam temple for 10 days to attain peace.

At the time, she decreed that anyone performing this homam will get over all sorrows and attain happiness.

Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami is the presiding deity for knowledge, material problems (Sansaara Bandhanam), and Moksha.

It is believed that by praying to Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami with Bhakti (love and devotion) and adhering to the principles of life as laid down by our scriptures will lead the devotee to the path of Moksha (end of the cycles of birth and death) and Gnana Kosha (Library of Knowledge). He is also known as "Gnana Piran" in Tamil Nadu.

The purpose of this Avataara was to rescue the earth from the clutches of Hiranyaaksha. In the present days of Natural disasters and evil acts by people, performing this Yaagam can help the participants attain peace, relief from difficulties, remove evil thoughts, and alleviate natural disasters.

The Yaagam is performed in five Kaalaas (sessions). In each Kaala, Bhoo Suktham, Varaaha Gaayathri Mantram, Varaaha Kavacham are chanted while offering oblations (havissu).

By the conclusion of the event Bhoo Suktham would have been chanted for 508 times, Varaaha Gaayathri Mantram would have been chanted for 4320 times and Varaaha Kavacham would have been chanted for 200 times.

We encourage devotees to participate in the Yaagam and chant these mantras to obtain divine blessings.

On these four days, Samprokshana actvities for the Swarna Kavacha will be conducted in parallel. Bhoo Devi will be adorned with a swarna kavacha (an ornament) to mark the grandeur of this rare religious event.

We invite all devotees to come, participate in this rare religious event which is being performed for the first time since the consecration of the temple in 1986.

Please visit the temple on all four days and experience the divine ambiance and obtain the grace of Sri Bhoo Varaaha Swami and the Goddess Bhoo Devi.
