Actor Sivaji has finally issued a public apology following the backlash over his controversial remarks at the Dhandoraa event, where he made objectionable comments about actresses and women’s clothing.
During his speech, Sivaji claimed that women who wear revealing outfits are spoken about in derogatory terms behind their backs, explicitly using words such as “Daridrapu M*nda.”
He went further by asking women to cover their “saamanlu,” which triggered widespread outrage.
The backlash was swift and intense, with several celebrities reacting strongly to his comments.
Adding to the pressure, the collective Voice of Women; representing working women, actresses, producers, directors, and technicians; demanded an unconditional apology from Sivaji, describing his remarks as unacceptable and demeaning.
Amid mounting criticism, Sivaji released a video apology in which he admitted that he should not have used the two “unparliamentary words” and expressed regret over his language.
However, he attempted to clarify that his comments were not directed at all women, claiming they were meant only in reference to actresses and certain recent incidents. He also said that he has always respected women.
