Kalabharathi, a community-based group in metro NJ/NY/PA, announced the start of the Ganesha Chaturthi Festival as an 11-Day Utsav. Beginning on Wednesday September 19th, the Utsav celebrations will begin with Prathishtha Pooja at 6:00 pm in the Mall at Oak Tree, 1710 Oak Tree Road in Edison, NJ.
“Kalabharathi has been holding the Ganesha Chaturthi festival as a 9-day community event for the last nine years and this year will mark our 10th continuous annual celebration”, announced the team members of the Utsav Committee. Members of Kalabharathi see the increasing participation of the community over the years as their motivation for continued celebration of the Ganesha Chaturthi as a community festival.
To mark their 10th year of continuous celebrations, Kalabharathi hosted a community meet on Sunday 9th September at the event venue. In hosting the meet with several prominent community leaders, Kalabharthi aims to expand the participation of the community, and discussed ways of community outreach, and also the planning and coordination of the 11-day event through Utsav Coordination Committees.
The expanded 11-day celebrations during the Utsav will include, daily pooja, kirthans, bhajans and cultural events in which, in addition to professional artists, many local dance and music school students participate.
The Utsav Committee also announced that the 11-day celebrations will end with a grand Nimajjan ceremony on Saturday September 29th in Johnson Park in New Brunswick, NJ (River Road, Piscataway).
