2016: Sindhu Emerges GA Person Of The Year

Ace Hyderabadi shuttler P V Sindhu, who made the entire country and every Telugu proud by winning silver medal at the Rio Olympics last year, has emerged as the Person of the Year—2016 in the online poll conducted by Greatandhra.com.

Sindhu stood among the top with 50.41 per cent of readers crowning her as the Person of the Year.

Sindhu, who was the only Indian badminton player to reach the Olympics final, lost narrowly to Spain shuttler Carolina Marin, but won the hearts of millions of fans across the country and globe. She has now emerged as the new youth icon of Hyderabad.

Surprisingly, Vaishnavite seer Sri Tridandi Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, stood in the No. 2 position after Sindhu, pushing the other contestants to the bottom by securing 23.51 per cent of votes in the polling.

Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, who shot into prominence last year with the completion of sixty years of his spiritual journey, has millions of followers.

Prominent Telugu film director S S Rajamouli, who got country-wide recognition by winning the national award for the best film-2016 for his magnum opus Baahubali, has secured the third position with 14.54 per cent votes.

Telangana irrigation minister T Harish Rao, who hit the national headlines by transforming Ibrahimpur in his Siddipet constituency into the first cashless village of South India, was ranked fourth with 11.54 per cent votes.
