The absence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s name in the list of women dignitaries from different parts of the country to be invited by the Telangana government to the Bathukamma festival has irked the Telangana Congress leaders.
Former minister and senior Telangana Congress leader D K Aruna on Sunday demanded that the TRS government invite the AICC president to be the chief guest for the State-level Bathukamma Festival.
Talking to mediapersons at Congress Legislature Party office here on Sunday, Aruna pointed out that Sonia Gandhi accorded statehood to Telangana region despite many odds. Therefore, the Congress supremo should be given priority to the festival, she said.
She said the TRS government should have consulted other noted women of all other political parties and all walks of life. The government should involve others for the festival she said. Steps should be taken to conduct the same at district and mandal level. “Promotion of our culture and tradition involving a large number of women at all levels will prove fruitful”, she added.
Referring to Medak bypoll, Aruna alleged that all ministers participated in the election campaigning. She also condemned the TRS leaders for targeting Telangana Congress chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
