Why Is Shamshabad Being Made Into District?

There seems to be no rationale behind formation of new districts in Telangana. While ignoring genuine demands for creating certain districts like Gadwal and Jangaon, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government has given nod to districts like Hanamkonda, Peddapalli and Shamshabad, where there is absolutely no demand from people.

In fact, there is a stiff opposition from the people of Hanamkonda for separating it from Warangal, since both are like twin cities.

At the same time, Jangaon is very far from Warangal, but it is not being considered as a district. So is the case with Peddpalli, which is hardly 30 km from Karimnagar but it is being declared as district headquarters.

Similarly, one wonders why Shamshabad is being carved out as a district. It is on the border of Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts. Since it has an international airport, it can even be part of Hyderabad. In fact, it is already under the limits of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.

According to TDP leader A Revanth Reddy, there is a clear case of conspiracy in declaring Shamshabad as a district.

It has huge tracts of land belonging to My Home group J Rameshwar Rao, who is a right hand of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Making it into a separate district would help him gain crores of rupees in the form of property tax, which would be more if Shamshabad is part of Hyderabad, says Revanth.
