What Jagan needs to do to win 2019 polls...

No doubt, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is working extremely hard to bring his party to power and fulfil his personal ambition of ascending the chief minister’s throne in 2019 elections.

But it appears Jagan has taken the things for granted – assuming that the people, who are terribly vexed with the rule of Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu, would automatically vote the YSRC to power. In the process, he is either underestimating Naidu’s politicking or overestimating his own strengths.

Those who have been observing the state politics for the last three decades say it is not so easy for a relatively newcomer like Jagan to take on an experienced politician Chandrababu Naidu, who has mastered the tricks of the trade in the state politics.

So, Jagan has to do certain things if he has to emerge victorious by cashing in on Naidu’s failures.

1. Jagan has to stop depending on his family members like his wife Bharati, or her cousin Divya Reddy or uncles Ravindranath Reddy and Y V Subba Reddy, but take all the senior leaders into confidence as they have vast experience at the ground level.

2. Secondly, he has to give up his ego and bring in his father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s close aide K V P Ramachandra Rao, who is an expert at political management as well as poll management, instead of depending on his own aides like Vijay Sai Reddy and Ramakrishna Reddy, who have absolutely no political experience and connect with the grass root party workers.

3. There is one important character of YSR, which Naidu is following but not Jagan. That is networking of leadership from top to bottom. That was the success of YSR and Naidu in the elections.

Naidu knows very well who should be deployed where and how to network with all such leaders, so that they can expand the network up to the booth level. If the network is strong, the poll management will become easier.

Unfortunately, the YSRC lacks this networking, except of course in places where the MLAs are strong.

4. Jagan should come out of the illusion that he has already become the chief minister. Though he may sound confident when he says that he would be the chief minister in 2019 and that he would resolve all the issues once he ascends the throne. Instead, he should request the people to give him a chance to serve them.

5. Corruption is a non-issue for the voters, as they strongly believe that no political party is above corruption. In fact, voter himself is corrupt as he takes money to vote for a candidate.

He knows it and so, if Jagan harps on Naidu’s corruption and scams, nobody would take it seriously. Instead, he should focus on the failures of the Naidu government on various fronts.

6. Last, but not the least, Jagan should not hesitate to spend money in the elections. There is nothing to be ashamed of it, as no political party in the country including Narendra Modi’s BJP, is an exception. Why hypocrisy?
