Villages Out Of Land Acquisition Scare?

For now, Andhra Pradesh government has stopped land acquisition in the 8 villages bordering Krishna river. The farmers in the villages are a happy lot and they are planning to celebrate the occasion on September 3.

Well, if one goes back a little, it is known that as a part of their land acquisition programme, Andhra Pradesh government issued notices to the villages on banks of Krishna river. However, farmers from 8 villages have been holding dharnas and filing requests to stop the acquisition.

Then, Pawan Kalyan and opposition leader Jagan came into the picture and threatened to take up the farmers' cause and hold dharnas and fasts to stop acquisitions.

On the other hand, owing to public pressure and fear of opposition threats, the Central government which had issued an ordinance to facilitate land acquisition, took back the ordinance.

Sensing that it was about to happen, Andhra Pradesh government went one step further and announced that it was stalling acquisition process in the eight villages.

And in case the AP government still wants to go ahead, then it will have to follow a set of guidelines, where in it will have to formal notifications, wait for approval after discussions in gram panchayats, etc. So for now, AP government has put its plans of acquisition on hold.

As for the villagers in Penumaka, Undavalli, Rayapudi, Bethapudi and other villages, it is celebration time though the threat hasn't been averted completely as the Andhra Pradesh government now plans to get the farmers give their consent before acquiring land.
