'Republic' Story Only To Malign YSRC In Nandyal?

'Republic' Story Only To Malign YSRC In Nandyal?

There is a saying in Telugu: "Aloo ledu, chuloo ledu, koduku peru Somalingam.." (No wife, no pregnancy, but the child’s name is Somalingam).

It aptly suits to the ongoing speculation over a report carried by newly founded Republic TV over YSR Congress party joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The channel, known to be having saffron party leanings, aired a speculative story that former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy had mediated between the YSR Congress party and the BJP and the alliance between the two has almost been finalised.

This has led to wild speculations in the media and political circles; and some of them went to the extent of saying that Jagan would merge his YSRC with the BJP!

Waiting for an opportunity to run down the YSRC, the Telugu Desam Party leaders have started questioning YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as to why he had remained silent over the speculations.

“He attacked the TDP when we had alliance with the BJP in the last elections. Now, he is doing the same. He should give an explanation to the people as to why he is trying for an alliance with the BJP, while hoodwinking Muslims in Nandyal,” TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said.

The YSRC leaders see the Republic TV report as a conspiracy to malign their party during the ongoing Nandyal elections.

“Where is the need for the channel to telecast such a speculative report only three days before the Nandyal by-elections? And why were the TDP leaders so eager to attack the YSRC? It clearly shows the report was telecast purely at the behest of the TDP, so as to alienate the Muslims from the YSRC,” Silpa Chakrapani Reddy alleged.
