Remember Chandolu Shobha Rani, the loud mouth leader of Mahila Rajyam, the women’s wing of erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party?
Well, the last time one had heard about Shobha was in 2013, when she raised a ruckus in Hyderabad by launching hunger strike and threatening self-immolation in protest against the Centre’s decision to divide combined Andhra Pradesh state. She said she would sacrifice her life for the sake of united Andhra. After that, she was nowhere to be seen.
On Thursday. Shobha surfaced from nowhere in Guntur. She joined Telugu Desam Party in the presence of minister Nakka Anand Babu, claiming that she was attracted by the developmental programmes being taken up by the Chandrababu Naidu government.
In fact, Shobha was originally in the TDP before she joined the Praja Rajyam Party floated by mega star Chiranjeevi in 2007.
People used to compare her with firebrand leader R K Roja, who was then in the TDP and both of them used to indulge in war of words against each other in strongest terms.
She was made the president of PRP’s Mahila wing and there was not a single day when she did not address a press meet.
But after she was denied the party ticket in the 2009 elections, Shobha came out of the PRP and started attacking Chiranjeevi, stating that the PRP had become a flop show.
She accused him of leading the party in proper direction and fight for the people’s issues.
She alleged that Chiranjeevi had sold his party to Congress for the sake of power. She also demanded that movies of mega family actors be banned.
