Naidu following in Modi’s footsteps has been calling on NRI’s to adopt a village each and contribute to the development of Andhra Pradesh.
NRI’s and PIO’s have always been rock solid in their support for the country whenever the nation was faced with any calamity. But this present appeal by Naidu will not reverberate well with them for the simple reason that there is absolutely no clarity regarding the same.
What exactly is an NRI supposed to do after ‘adopting a village’? Is it task-specific like an NRI is asked to provide rechargeable solar lamps to all households in a village with electricity problems? Or construct ten toilets for the village in important places like the village school etc?
Imagine a doctor from Chicago adopting a village out of love for his motherland? What happens next? Is he going to have to run around from pillar to post talking to menial government servants just to get permission for the construction of a well or bore?
Will he survive the red tape and endless files of bureaucracy? And most importantly, to get back to the beginning, what is he supposed to do in terms of tangible goals after adopting a village?
