For quite some time, there has been a strong criticism against the Telugu television serials, which are encouraging superstitions, infighting within families, abuse of children and even crime. Of late, even vulgar and obscene scenes are also entering the television serials.
Now, womenfolk has started demanding ban of certain serials and if not ban, they should be censored before being put on air.
Leading this demand is senior Telugu Desam Party leader and AP state women welfare corporation chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari.
She demanded that the government set up a censor board even for TV serials so that objectionable content can be removed before they are aired on television.
She submitted a memorandum to Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanding that the government take effective measures to stop violence, crime and sex in Telugu daily serials.
She pointed out that the Centre has not responded to her letter asking for a ban on objectionable serials and reality shows.
“It is better we have a censor board for TV serials, too,” she said.
She alleged that these serials were propagating violence and obscenity affecting the families.
“Unless there is a curb on them, the TV channels continue to air them damaging the social fabric,” Rajakumari said.
