Naidu's Favouritism At Its Peak!

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have thrown all the norms to the winds in showering favours to his close industrial and business groups and inviduals.

His latest decision to hand over running of ration shops to Reliance and Future groups in the name of ‘Village Malls’ has come in for some sharp criticism from various quarters, as it would destroy the present public distribution system.

Naidu has come out with the concept of “Village Malls” which would be run by the Reliance and Future groups which would supply essential commodities to the people at the rate offered by fair price shops.

Needless to say, Naidu’s family concern Heritage Group has stakes in these two big business houses. At the outset, it appears these malls would supply commodities at cheaper rates, but the plan seems to be taking control of the PDS in a systematic manner.

Already the government has stopped giving dal, sugar, oil and kerosene and was supplying only rice once in a fortnight. Now, it is trying to shirk from its responsibility of implementing PDS by handing over the ration shops to Reliance and Future Groups in the name of ‘Village Malls.

“Handing over ration shops to private organisations is nothing, but depriving food security to the poor. We demand the government to withdraw its decision,” an opposition leader said.

What is worse, the government is contemplating on handing over the midday meal scheme to Akshaya Patra and Anganwadi centres to Narayana group. One can imagine how much loot the Narayana group would indulge in.
