KCR to drop NTR from NTR garden!

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi government is understood to have decided to rename the famous NTR Gardens on the southern banks of Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad as Ambedkar Garden.

The NTR Garden was developed around the NTR Samadhi adjacent to Secretariat building and Mint Compound, where the mortal remains of legendary actor and former chief minister N T Rama Rao, were consigned to flames.

The 25-acre sprawling garden is now a famous recreation centre and the entire stretch between the Secretariat and Necklace Road rotary is being called NTR Marg. Those who come to the garden will invariably pay a visit to NTR Samadhi.

Now, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants to drop the name of NTR from the NTR Garden and rename it as Ambedkar Garden, reports in a section of media said.

The decision follows the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority’s (HMDA) nod to allot five acres of land towards the installation of 125 feet Ambedkar statue in the garden premises. A big memorial museum would come up in the remaining 20 acres garden, which is now amusement park.

The NTR Garden name will be confined to the NTR Samadhi and its premises only. The decision to drop the NTR name from the garden is likely to kick up a controversy in the coming days.
