It is an open secret that the Telugu Desam Party has almost been wiped out in Telangana. Except a couple of MLAs, there are hardly any leaders left in the party at present and there have been absolutely no programmes or plans for the party in Telangana.
The lack of leadership in Telangana for the TDP was evident from the way party president N Chandrababu Naidu has retained more or less the same team while constituting the Telangana unit of the party. Just to prove its identity, the party organises some programmes or the other to be in the news.
However, the party leadership in Telangana surprisingly came out with a strange statement. Telangana TDP president L Ramana announced that if the party comes to power in Telangana in 2019 elections, it would make a woman as the deputy chief minister. This promise was made taking the vow on Bathukamma, on the eve of the Dasara festival at NTR Trust Bhavan.
Ramana pointed out that Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who claims to be respecting woman by celebrating Bathukamma festival in a big way and distributing cheap sarees to women, has not given even a single cabinet berth to women.
“If the TDP is voted to power in 2019, we will ensure complete justice to women by giving the deputy chief minister post and a couple of berths in the cabinet to women,” Ramana said.
Well, why didn’t Ramana suggest to Naidu to give Deputy Chief Minister post to women in Andhra Pradesh, where the party is in power? One can even promise a moon to the people, if one does not have any scope to come to power. What are they going to lose?
