It's clear: Lagadapati not to return to politics

Former Vijayawada MP and industrialist Lagadapati Rajagopal, who had quit politics soon after bifurcation of combined Andhra Pradesh state, has decided against returning to active politics.

Till recently, there was a talk that Lagadapati was contemplating coming back into politics.

He had met Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu a couple of times, praised his leadership and appreciated the construction of new capital of Amaravati.

This led to the speculations that he might join the TDP to safeguard his business interests.

However, on Thursday, Lagadapati made it clear that he had no interest in coming back to politics and declared that he would stick to his decision on retiring from politics.

He said he would continue to do pre-election and post-election surveys just out of interest.

The former MP, who strongly opposed the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh tooth and nail and got into national headlines with his infamous pepper spray incident in Lok Sabha to stall the voting on bifurcation, now seems to be repenting on his stand.

“I thought the bifurcation would result in clashes between the two states and there would be frequent disturbances in both the states. However, I was proved wrong. People of both the Telugu states are living in harmony and there is a healthy competition between the two in achieving prosperity. I am happy about it,” Lagadapati said.
