Everything In Amaravati: Is It Right Naidu?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to be doing the same mistake with Amaravati, the new capital, as he had done with Hyderabad: concentrating everything at one place, ignoring the rest of the state.

The way Naidu is making announcements on Amaravati with every passing day, it makes one wonder why he is focussing the development only on the capital.

While it is fine to have the Secretariat, Assembly, the High Court and other administrative structures in Amaravati, Naidu appears to be inviting every investment only in the capital region.

For example, he has announced setting up of a new airport at Mangalagiri, close to Amaravati, when there is already an airport at Gannavaram.

He laid foundation for VIT university, when there is already Nagarjuna University there. He wants every developmental activity around Amaravati, such as big schools, hospitals, parks and entertainment facilities by attracting top investors from across the world, he mentioned.

Panchshil Realty, which has built over 14.5 million sft of prime real estate including the International Convention Center in Pune which is South Asia’s largest trade and convention center, mentioned that they were excited about the prospects of Amaravati and are considering even building 3-4 million sqft of office space.

They are keen on integrated development involving asset classes like office space, Retail and Dining complex and a Convention center. Puravankara mentioned that they would be interested in developing Commercial complexes, residential complexes and would later build Malls, Retail centres and Dining complexes.

L&T, Mahindra, Raheja, Tata housing also expressed their interest to be part of the Amaravati growth story

Naidu also proposes to set up large golf courses with villas, gardens alongside the riverside and other development activities should be taken up. Six leading developers have evinced keen interest in setting up Commercial Offices, Malls, Convention Center and Dining complexes in Amaravati.

“Additionally, there is a lot of potential for adventure sports such as rock climbing, water sports and so on in Amaravati. With such facilities, the liveability in the city will be extremely high, unseen anywhere in India. The great environment created for top talent will ensure the creation of a great economy for the city as well as the state,” a CMO statement said.
