Dattatreya Planning To Retire?

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Dattatreya, who was forced to submit his resignation from the post of Union Labour Minister, is terribly upset with the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is understood to have decided to retire from active politics.

What hurt Dattatreya most was the way he was asked to resign over some controversy in his department, though he is non-controversial minister in the entire Modi cabinet.

Apparently, the Prime Minister told him that his services would be utilised by the party in appropriate manner and if everything goes well, he would be appointed as Governor of any state.

However, Dattatreya is not very much elated with Modi assurance. Since he is still a Lok Sabha member, it is not possible to make him the Governor unless the party asks him to quit the MP and decides by-elections. He made a last minute attempt to influence Modi through his RSS contacts, but that did not work.

Sources said Dattatreya indicated to his close friends that it would be better if he retired from politics after 2019 elections, since there are indications that he might not get the party ticket for the MP seat again.

And having served in the Union cabinet, he does not want to settle down in Telangana with a smaller post.
