Cheap Politics Over Saree Distribution!

Cheap Politics Over Saree Distribution!

The distribution of Bathukamma sarees among the women of below poverty line by the Telangana government has turned out to be a cheap political battle between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the opposition parties.

First of all, the distribution of sarees free of cost to women itself is a political gimmick of the TRS during the election year.

The TRS wanted to appease womenfolk by offering them nice sarees in the name of Bathukamma festival and at the same time, woo the weavers by providing them some work.

But this has backfired with the lower-run leaders indulging in a scam by purchasing cheap quality sarees from Surat and selling the actual sarees woven by the weavers in the market, thereby making big money.

Naturally, this has come as a weapon to the opposition parties, particularly the Congress, which sought to exploit the anger among the women by engineering burning of cheap sarees on roads and rejecting them at the counters. This resulted in a cheap political war between the TRS and the opposition parties.

TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had insulted poor women by distributing them cheap, sub-standard and defective sarees.

He said instead of ordering probe into the allegations of supply of defective and poor quality sarees by women in various parts of the State, TRS leaders were blaming Congress party for the protests.

"KCR or any other TRS leaders lack both morals and guts to accept their mistakes. Instead, they are trying to cover up the failures by blaming Congress party. TRS Govt tried to gain cheap publicity by distributing sarees on Bathukamma festival.

However, this plan got sabotaged due to the greed of their own leaders who purchased poor quality sarees to make a killing and the entire exercise exposed the ill-intentions of ruling party," he said adding that KCR has completely ruined the festive mood of Bathukamma with this mis-adventure.
