Behind The Scene: Business In Jail

With the Supreme Court refusing the 40 day parole request of Subrata Roy, jailed Sahara Chairman, his lawyers have made a fresh proposal. They want Subrata to be shifted to the guest house in Tihar Jail.

Subrata Roy has to deposit a further Rs 9000 crore approximately with SEBI as per the Supreme Court guidelines.

To raise additional money, he is selling three hotels in London and New York. Since these are high profile deals, he has to be present in person to negotiate with prospective buyers.

Obviously they will not meet him in the prisoner’s barracks where he is currently housed. Hence, the request to shift him to the guest house.

A request for all modern communication facilities such as e-mail, fax machines etc has also been made.

Initially, the Court had agreed to let him out for a few hours every day but the lawyers say this is untenable as the clients are based in different parts of the globe and operate in different timelines.
