The latest meeting between former Gannavaram MLA and YSR Congress Party leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi and Telugu Desam Party leader and former MLA Vangaveeti Radha Krishna has triggered fresh speculation over possible changes in political equations in Andhra Pradesh.
Vamsi met Radha in Vijayawada on Wednesday along with his associate Kanthamneni Srinivasa Rao. Srinivasa Rao had reportedly gone to invite Radha to his son’s wedding. During the meeting, Vamsi and Radha exchanged warm greetings and posed together for photographs.
The meeting attracted attention because the two former MLAs, who belong to different political camps, have shared a close friendship for several years.
Both Vamsi and Radha are prominent political figures from the erstwhile Krishna district and have maintained close relations despite their political differences.
Though the two have reportedly continued to invite each other to family functions despite being associated with different political groups, their latest meeting has become a talking point on social media.
A similar instance was seen last year when several political leaders attended the naming ceremony of Radha’s daughter, Rudhira.
Former minister Kodali Nani, Vamsi and former MLA Jakkampudi Raja were among those present. Radha had invited them because of his personal friendship with the leaders.
Photographs of Radha, Nani and Vamsi together at the event later went viral on social media, with several users observing that personal friendships need not necessarily be affected by political differences.
Vangaveeti Radha Krishna entered politics carrying forward the political legacy of his parents and initially joined the Congress. He contested the 2004 Assembly elections from Vijayawada East and won the seat.
Ahead of the 2009 elections, he left the Congress and joined the Praja Rajyam Party founded by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi. He contested from Vijayawada Central but was defeated.
Radha later joined the YSR Congress Party before the 2014 elections and contested from Vijayawada East, but lost the election.
He subsequently served as Vijayawada city YSRCP president and as the party’s coordinator for Vijayawada Central.
Ahead of the 2019 elections, Radha left the YSRCP and joined the Telugu Desam Party. He campaigned for TDP candidates during the election.
He later remained relatively inactive in electoral politics but extended his support to the Amaravati farmers’ movement.
During the 2024 elections, Radha became politically active again and campaigned for candidates of the NDA alliance.
There had been speculation that he would be accommodated in the Legislative Council after the alliance came to power. However, he has not received any formal political position so far.
The latest meeting with Vamsi has once again drawn attention to Radha’s continuing political relevance and his longstanding personal relationships across party lines.
