Senior actor and former Union minister Megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent remarks on development in Andhra Pradesh have triggered a political exchange between the ruling coalition and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), particularly with local body elections approaching.

Speaking at an event in Kapileswarapuram in East Godavari district on Sunday, Chiranjeevi expressed satisfaction over what he described as improvements in the state’s roads, rural governance and healthcare services.

Chiranjeevi said he had visited the state after several years and noticed considerable changes compared with the past.

“Good roads have come up. Panchayats that were once placed at 23rd or 25th positions have now reached the top position in the country,” he said, adding that improvements were gradually becoming visible across sectors.

He also referred to developments in healthcare services, attributing improvements to the efforts of Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav.

“I hope this development continues and benefits the people,” Chiranjeevi said.

His comments have drawn attention because of his family ties to the ruling coalition, particularly his younger brother and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who heads the Jana Sena Party.

The actor’s remarks have been interpreted by sections of the ruling coalition as a positive assessment of the state government’s performance, especially in rural infrastructure and local administration.

Given Chiranjeevi’s popularity across Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the coastal districts, his observations have received considerable attention on social media. His fan base extends across several regions, including East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Rayalaseema and North Andhra.

The remarks have also drawn attention to the Panchayat Raj portfolio held by Pawan Kalyan, although Chiranjeevi’s comments broadly focused on development and improvements in public services.

The timing of the remarks has added to their political significance, with parties preparing for the upcoming local body elections.

The YSRCP has challenged Chiranjeevi’s assessment, arguing that conditions on the ground do not match his description of the state’s progress.

Party leaders have pointed to potholes on roads in Amaravati and rising prices of essential commodities, questioning claims that infrastructure and public services have improved significantly.

Some YSRCP leaders have also alleged that Chiranjeevi’s remarks were influenced by the fact that members of his family hold important positions in the government and that the comments could indirectly benefit Jana Sena in the upcoming local body elections.

They have further claimed that the actor was praising the government primarily because of his relationship with Pawan Kalyan.

With local body elections approaching, the exchange over Chiranjeevi’s remarks has become part of the broader political debate between the ruling coalition and the opposition over the state government’s performance.

While the ruling alliance may cite Chiranjeevi’s comments as a positive assessment of the development process, the YSRCP is seeking to counter that narrative by highlighting road conditions and the rising cost of living.

  8. What can you expect him to talk in public when his brother is a part of the govt? He doesn’t want his brother’s party also sink just the way his own did. I wish he would mentor his brother to let it rise as a powerful standalone party rather than being as submissive to another one.
