Youth Should Be Supported To Enter Politics

Dilip Sankarreddy, member of National Council of Lok Satta Party , appealed at the Harvard India Conference to Indian citizens to donate to the political activities of capable and honest youth to encourage them to grow as effective leaders of tomorrow. He said that the greatest tragedy of the current Indian politics is the lack of public participation in political donations. He made these remarks as an invited speaker on the topic “Politics as a vocation: Pathways for young people to ennoble Indian politics” at the prestigious Harvard India Conference conducted by Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government at Boston, USA on March 9th and 10th. His inspiring speech was well-received by the audience including luminaries such as Sam Pitroda, advisor to Prime Minister of India.

Dilip Sankarreddy said that the two biggest impediments to aspiring politicians are dynastic politics and the requirement of big amounts of money and Lok Satta Party is an effective platform for the youth to enter politics even if they do not have the desired political family background or money power.

Harvard India Conference is the most influential among the India-focussed summits globally. Previous speakers at the conference include Amartya Sen, P. Chidambaram and Navin Jindal.  In 2012, Dilip Sankarreddy quit his professional job in the U.S. to work for the people in India full-time and to lead by example to inspire the best and the brightest to enter politics to serve the nation. The Harvard invitation is a recognition of his initiative for people-centered politics and his “Dilip for Malkajgiri” campaign practices.

Dilip is the winner of World Bank India Development Marketplace Award 2007 for providing innovative lighting solutions to tribals and nomads across India and his work has been recognized by various universities and governments. As a social worker, he has taken up various issues concerning urban development and has talked about environment and sustainable development at international conferences and forums since 2004. Dilip Sankarreddy holds an MBA degree from the reputed University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Prior to relocating to Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, he worked in corporate strategy, corporate finance, global sales and marketing, and product development in telecommunications and education industries in companies across the world.
