Every day, there are many rapes that happen in India and some of them come out and some don’t. But December 16th, 2012 ought to be the darkest day for any civilized Indian. The gang rape incident that took place in a bus in Delhi is a mirror to the demonic nature of human beings. Most importantly, it also goes to show how the fear of law no longer exists in our nation.
We are nearing a month since the incident took place but till now no action has been taken on the rapists. More shockingly, what we hear from the politicos on this incident makes us believe that it is not the actual rapists but the politicians whose mind is like a rapist. The strong sexist notion that our senior leaders have goes to show how they are running this country.
One MP from Lok Sabha tagged the women as ‘dented painted’ who don’t know the ground reality. Another senior leader questioned why women should roam at night. And then came the hardliners who mentioned that it is the impact of western culture, women paying the price for crossing their limits etc. The final one came from holy Godman Asaram Bapu who feels the girl is very much to blame as the rapists.
With due respect, more than bringing justice to the victim and her family by putting the rapists to death, the politicians are busy squabbling with their ‘intellect’ and setting a very wrong precedence on the male gender. Forget about the actual rapists being done to death, unless the politicos change their mindset and stop raping the society with their thoughts and ‘wisdom’ this country is not going to change.
