YSRCP to boycott TDP sponsored MLAs' tour

Hyderabad: YSR Congress has decided to boycott the proposed excursion of legislators being organized by the TDP Government and said instead the State should extend the monsoon session from five to twenty days as there are many issues to be discussed.

“We see the proposed tour as an appeasement in lieu of the short term of monsoon session and strongly oppose such trips as it would be wasting public money at a time when the state finances are very bleak,” Party Deputy Floor leader Jyothula Nehru told reporters here on Friday.

The decision to boycott the tour was taken at the legislature party meeting.

“Instead of cutting short the monsoon session to just five days, we demand that it should be extend it to 20 days which enables an elaborate discussion on various issues of public interest.

The drought, farmers’ plight, pushkar tragedy, special status and a plethora of other issues need public attention and the five days will not be sufficient to debate all the issues,” he said.

In a separate press conference, party leader N Viswaroop took strong objection to the TDP Government inaugurating the pylon and trying to give an impression that the Pattiseema project is completed and water will be released to Rayalaseema.

“It is only publicity of the TDP Government as no works were completed and the project which was taken up only for kickbacks has been projected as being complete while the fact remains otherwise.

The silt base has not been built, the power lines are not active and the water level at Dowleswaram has not crossed the mandatory 14 feet mark as is mandatory to release the water. How can the project take off with so many shortcomings,’ he said.

The little works completed were of poor quality and if TDP feels that it has completed Pattiseema project, it is better if it concentrates on Polavaram and completes the works, he said.
