Special status won't fetch any benefits?

Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah  Naidu, who till the other day tried to hoodwink the people of Andhra Pradesh on the special status to Andhra Pradesh, has now completely changed tune.

On Saturday, Venkaiah said there were no special benefits to the State even if special status was given.

He said setting up of projects in the State was more important than granting special status to Andhra Pradesh.

He reminded that though the Centre had accorded special status category to 11 States in the country, they were still economically backward and striving to get projects from the Centre. It was the government’s aim to make the country corruption-free. The Centre has taken initiatives to improve skills of the youth, he added.

He said special category status was one of the issues for Andhra Pradesh. “But everything cannot be solved with that. The Centre intends to help the State more than that," he said, adding that in the current situation what the State needs is industries and not special category status and all the parties should focus on this. If industries are established the State will develop on its own, he felt.
