Special Status Issue Rocks LS: BJP Unmoved

The issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh rocked the Lok Sabha on Monday with the Telugu Desam Party MPs, along with the YSR Congress party MPs, stalled the proceedings of the House. However, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government remained unmoved with the ruckus created by the members of its ally.

Soon after the commencement of the Lok Sabha for the day, YSR Congress party MPs stormed the Speaker’s podium holding placards and raising slogans seeking special category status for Andhra Pradesh. They did not heed to the appeals of the Speaker not to bring placards into the House. Soon, the TDP MPs joined the agitation and raised similar slogans.

Despite repeated reminders by the Speaker that placards are not allowed, members of the two parties continued to show banners and raise slogans throughout the Question Hour, which continued in the din.

However, with the sloganeering by the TDP MPs continuing, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House to afternoon.
