Sex Scandal, Infighting... AAP's Story Gets Spicier, Murkier

Aam Aadmi Party was like manna from heaven for the people of Delhi who were vexed with an overdose of rapes and the incumbent's apathy towards the increasing cases of sexual violence.

But the joy was short-lived and AAP came to power in Delhi and went out with equal speed. Used to agitating for causes and not to administration, Arvind Kejriwal chose to give up his chair and quietly let down the very people who voted for him.

But in a rather intriguing and surprising verdict, the Delhi people once again chose to vote for Arvind Kejriwal over Kiran Bedi of BJP. Of course, the choice could have resulted from having no choice and from choosing a lesser evil from amongst the choices offered. Well, that is not our concern for now.

But the fact remains that Arvind Kejriwal was once again voted to be the Chief Minister of Delhi. Well, but that’s where the party ended for Arvindji and his ‘clean’ set of politicians.

Ever since they have been in power, the party has shown the other and rather depressing side of the ‘power of the common man’.

In what can be said to be a role reversal, skeletons started stumbling out of AAP’s cupboard and the stories only seem to be getting spicier and murkier to say the least.

Well, for starters, there was a public washing of dirty linen between Arvind Kejriwal and his close aides which is nothing short of a fight for ‘taakat and takhta’. Then there was the resignation of Anjali Damania quoting ‘horse trading’ as the reason.

Immediately after that, there was the huge issue that shocked the nation when in the presence of AAP leaders and Kejriwal himself, farmer Gajendra Singh committed suicide. Though AAP tried to accuse Delhi police of being supported by BJP, they retaliated and threatened to take action against senior leaders of AAP for witnessing and playing an indirect role in the farmer’s suicide.

This was followed by another jolt to Delhi voters wherein doubts about the validity of the law degree as claimed by AAP’s law minister Jitender Singh Tomar came to light.

And the latest story to hit media and social media is that of party senior leader Kumar Vishwas. It has been alleged that he had an affair with a woman volunteer during the run up to the general elections.

Even as the story broke on Monday, within a couple of hours, pictures of Vishwas along with other women were posted on Twitter with hashtag #exposingkumarvishwas and the story turned more intriguing when another senior leader Anand Kumar had said that the rift within the party would directly go into the bedrooms and living rooms of all leaders of AAP.

And as if so much drama was not enough, it has emerged that the ‘now’ controversial emails have been exchanged between Arvind Kejriwal, Vishwas, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav for months and that allegations about sexual relationships were doing rounds for months.

In fact, one man calling himself Ajay Vohra had even claimed that he had proof about Kumar Vishwas’s alleged affair with a volunteer from Amethi and that his wife was also aware of it.

Well, in a story that is stranger than fiction, the cracks within ‘clean’ AAP are surfacing one after the other and it appears as if the issue of emails and sex scandal is just the tip of a ticking time bomb that could well see the untimely death of a party that was born for the cause of the ‘common man’.
